About us
Richmond Oysters Ballina
Set on the banks of the “North Creek” arm of the Richmond River, Richmond Oysters has been supplying wholesale & retail customers in the Ballina area for over 60 years. Initially established to process it’s own Sydney Rock oysters, the business was forced to transition its operations following the discovery of QX disease (a widespread virus that kills SR oysters) in the Richmond River around 2000.
Since then, our aim has been to supply our customers with premium oysters sourced from some of the best growing areas in Australia including Sydney Rock oysters from Wallis Lake, Port Stephens, Manning River & Batemans Bay & Pacific Oysters from Coffin Bay SA, St Helens Tas & Batemans Bay NSW.
Following the release of several strains of QX resistant oysters by NSW DPI we hope to recommence production of Sydney Rock oysters in the Richmond River in the next 18/24 months.
